I'm trying to decide if it would be horrendous to write a FFXII Medieval AU with Dalmasca as Wales, Archadia as England, Nabradia as Scotland and Landis as Ireland. With a nod in as Fran from Scandinavia - but what would Rozarria be? France.

Balthier, as a half English half Welsh lordling from somewhere near the border plans defection and seeks the help from a noted wisewoman/Green Lady on the other side of the border. They strike up a partnership and try their hands at being raiders.

Ashelia as a princess, married a lord (will find proper cultural terminology) from Scotland to strike up a defence against the English.

Noah and Basch hail from small town/stead in south of Ireland which has been invaded by the English and have been brought back as serfs or similar. Basch escapes to become a Welsh bowsman, Noah becomes Gabranth and stays to work his way up in England.

Will be rife with inaccuracies most likely, but I'm really tempted. Would start of as series of linked together drabbles then see where that takes me.

But would any of you want to read it? :/

*raises hand* I'd read it!

[identity profile] green-animation.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*grabs hand and pulls into a hug* thank you :D as a matter of interest, especially in the Wales-focused parts, would you prefer it if I noted down a vocab/historical explanation part down at the end of every segment?

Oh, that's a good idea! There's a lot I don't know about Wales. :D

Unfortunately we get lost a little in the bits that make up the U.K :/ out of curiosity, what do you know? (not quizzing you! Promise!)

[identity profile] mako-lies.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I always say, it's not a matter if anyone would want to read it, but a matter of whether or not you want to write it.

XD

(But you've piqued my interest. ^^)

I'd read it. I particularly like AUs -- and noting historical explanation would be really interesting too.

:) thanks for the encouragement! I just didn't want to delve into something completely obscure without putting feelers out.

I know Welsh history can be a wee bit obscure, not even taking into account the language, so yes, notes at the end would be done. And thank you for letting me know you'd read it.

[identity profile] seta-suzume.livejournal.com 2011-05-09 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, not much! XD ...That Wales used to be its own country separate from the UK and has its own language (that uses combinations of letters I find fascinating because). (Ha ha, I'm not the type who's afraid to admit she has no clue about something!)

I would read it! And man would I be thrilled if Fran was Scandinavian

[identity profile] green-animation.livejournal.com 2011-05-26 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent. I feel large amounts of research are needed, nut this is shaping up :)

[identity profile] evatenshi.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
oooooh intriguing.

First off do some inane research :D, i'm sure I heard somewhere that the south of Wales and the North had differing loyalties. Also that there were enviromental barriers between Wales adn England. Wales has it's own language, as does Ireland (Gaelic) and I think Scotland too. If you want some window into life then, I recommend Child's ballads, there's lots of scottish and welsh ones in his collection.

Cariad, I am Welsh so I do know a fair bit about these things ;) But I'll still check out the ballads when I get to writing this (exams, urgh). Thanks for commenting.

And i'm english duck, doesn't mean I know anything about my own history :P.
